663 Years of Winemaking Heritage:

Schmid Oberrautner receives the 2026 South Tyrol Business Award

Schmid Oberrautner Estate has been honoured with the 2026 South Tyrol Business Award, presented by the Bolzano Chamber of Commerce. The award recognises long-established businesses that have shaped the region through generations of commitment, entrepreneurial vision and a deep sense of responsibility. With documented family roots dating back to 1363, our estate represents 663 years of uninterrupted winemaking tradition and was the oldest business to receive the award in 2026. We are deeply grateful for this recognition.

It celebrates the legacy entrusted to us by the generations before us, while encouraging us to continue our journey as a small family-run winery where history, sustainability and contemporary hospitality come together. Our heartfelt thanks go to everyone who has been part of this story — our guests, customers, partners and friends who continue to support and inspire us.

New wine at the estate:

Souvignier Gris “Flo”

A new wine is born – carrying a deeply personal signature:
its name comes directly from winemaker Florian Schmid, handwritten and transferred exactly as such onto the label. A detail that reflects the essence of this wine: authentic, individual, and closely connected to our estate.

A new grape variety, reinterpreted
Souvignier Gris belongs to the family of PIWI grape varieties (fungus-resistant) – a forward-looking approach in modern viticulture. This variety requires no plant protection treatments, preserves natural resources, and stands for a responsible relationship with nature and landscape.
In our vineyards in Unterplatten on the Renon plateau above Bolzano, Souvignier Gris finds ideal conditions: cool nights, sunny days, and mineral soils give the wine freshness, structure, and expression.

Style & character
Souvignier Gris “Flo” is intentionally crafted as a clear and approachable expression of this variety – a wine that offers an easy entry while revealing depth.
In the glass:

  • bright, luminous colour
  • on the nose, notes of ripe pear, apple, and subtle citrus hints
  • on the palate, fresh, balanced, and with an inviting flow

A modern white wine with an alpine profile and refined structure.

Food pairing
Versatile and effortless:

  • light starters and antipasti
  • fish and seafood dishes
  • vegetarian cuisine
  • fresh summer dishes

Also delightful on its own – an elegant companion for relaxed moments.

Part of our classic line
With “Flo”, we expand our classic line with a new facet.
At the same time, it complements our Souvignier Gris portfolio:

  • the elegant Villa Schmid Souvignier Gris
  • and our characterful SPUR Orange Wine (multiple award-winning)

“Flo!” represents the entry into this versatile variety – approachable, clear, and true to our terroir.

Sustainability at the core
With Souvignier Gris, we consciously invest in the future of viticulture:
less intervention, more natural balance, and a respectful approach to our vineyards.

A wine that not only tastes – but also stands for the future.
